Our Lady Queen of Peace has successfully developed the engineering specialism with integrity over time. Students spoke powerfully about engineering and its impact on the way they learn, suggesting real ownership of the specialism and its values. The specialism, underpinned by the school's Christian values and ethos has had a transformational effect on teaching and learning.
The school has a local, regional and national reputation for delivering high quality engineering and STEM related courses. This is supported by strong partnerships with industry, providing young people with authentic engineering experiences and opportunities for career progression, for example through apprenticeships.

Our Lady's became a specialist Engineering College in 2004 and we have subsequently retained our specialism because of the significant impact it has on our students in school. Our specialism underpins our drive to be a consistently outstanding school and the principles of engineering support our mission to be a creative and innovative community, preparing students to be successful in our global society. The engineering theme has influenced our ability to develop international links and work towards removing global injustices, for example, engineering is at the route of our latest Ghanaian project which involves water harvesting for Eguafo Middle School.
Engineering status requires us to demonstrate excellence in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) and the projects and activities that we undertake help our students to see the importance and relevance of these fundamentally important subjects for the 21st Century. If our students are to compete on the global stage, they must demonstrate aptitude and capability in STEM subjects so that they can find the solutions to problems that don't yet exist.
Our success in raising standards and providing all children with a wide variety of opportunities to develop the critical thinking skills associated with engineering is a significant strength. We have developed strong links with local and national businesses and use these links to offer an extensive enrichment programme, including: Formula 1 in Schools, our International Summer School, Girls in Aerospace, Scalextric car making, Extreme Physics and rocket making.
Engineering permeates all aspects of our curriculum and we hold specialist themed engineering days and weeks. In addition, we teach engineering as a discrete subject and currently offer GCSE and BTEC Engineering qualifications to our students and students from across West Lancashire.

Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) subjects are vital to sustain economic growth in the UK and are recognised by the government as key to the UK's future prosperity and global competiveness. If you would like to pursue a career in this field, we can assist, through our business links, in finding you work placements and apprenticeships. Every year we hold our STEM Careers Event with representatives from local and national industry, colleges, universities and global partners. This event is open to West Lancashire but most importantly, helps our students to see what they can achieve with good grades in these subjects.
